Green Tips from
Marcal® Small Steps®

  • Choose pet toys, beds and clothing made with recycled or sustainable materials.
  • Buy fresh foods instead of frozen – Frozen food uses 10 times more energy to produce.
  • Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. You can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
  • Buy local fruits and veggies for your house. Wash your fruits and veggies in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.
  • Save your coffee grinds. You can reuse them for fertilizer for indoor and outdoor plants!
  • Drink water from the tap, instead of buying single-use bottled water, which requires much more energy to produce, store and transport. It also helps keep bottles out of the landfill.
  • Keep a clean car…If you don’t need it, don’t haul it around. Extra weight decreases your gas mileage.
  • Bring a coffee mug to work instead of using paper or plastic cups for your morning pick me up.
  • Turning off the lights when leaving a room will save energy as well as money.
  • Save the trees while you fight junk mail! Sign up to stop excessive junk mail and help to reduce deforestation.
  • Buy a reusable bottle to take with you on the go, so you can always refill it from a tap and avoid buying bottled water.
  • Try to use major appliances during off peak hours to save some green!
  • Only run the dishwasher when it is full. By doing so you can save 100 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.
  • Use recycled paper products: Switch your home and business paper products to 100 percent recycled paper.
  • Make a resolution to save more water. One small step is teaching your family to turn off the water in between brushing teeth.
  • Save water, shorten your shower by a minute or two, and you’ll save up to 150 gallons per month.
  • Replace toxic home cleaners with a mixture of baking soda and vinegar, and remember to use Marcal® Small Steps®.
  • Check out your bathroom. Use low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets.
  • Unplug your cell phone charger from the wall when not using it. Turn off energy strips and surge protectors when not in use (especially overnight)
  • Buy products that use recyclable materials whenever possible.
  • Recycle your paper…we use it for good!

Recycle Your Holiday Cards

Don’t throw out last year’s Holiday cards. You can cut them up in fun shapes and use them this year as place cards, invitations, thank you notes, tree decorations and more!

Thanksgiving Bonanza

Use everything from your holiday dinner! Make scrumptious stocks and soups from vegetable peelings to leftover mean and bones. Freeze leftovers in easily reheatable portions to save energy. Keep some glass jars on hand to pack leftovers for yours guests, rather than using plastic or aluminum foil.

Natural Scents

Scent your home for the Holiday season the all natural way. Before guests arrive, put some cinnamon sticks in simmering water. Or you can also add clove, anise, or allspice to create the perfect holiday mood.

Recycle Holiday Rubbish

Prepare for all the extra Holiday trash by keeping a bin handy for glass, plastic and paper trash. Make sure to reuse cardboard boxes and packing peanuts. And don’t forget to compost all the scraps you can.

Recycled Table Decorations (Napkin Rings)

Make sure your dinner table looks inviting and pretty by reusing the cardboard cores from paper towel rolls to make personalized, decorative napkin rings.

Reuse the Bows

Don’t throw out the bows and ribbons from the gifts you receive. Keep them to reuse on other gifts.
